This year's elections not only include all three open House seats and an open Senate seat for the federal level, but also elections for every member of the State Legislature. Every state Representative and every state Senator is up for re-election.One of the hot Senate races this year is in Senate District 14. Incumbent Democrat James Taylor is being challenged by progressive Democrat Eric Griego. Griego was formerly an Albuquerque city councilor before leaving to run for mayor. He currently is the executive director ofthe New Mexico Voices For Children non-profit.
Griego launched his campaign website at www.EricGriegoForNewMexico.com, and included a video outlining briefly why he is running for State Senate. You can see the video to the right.
In the video, Griego calls for a real change in Santa Fe. Griego says, "I think we need comprehensive health care reform for all of our citizens. We need an education system that works for all our kids. And we need to really fundamentally change the way we do ethics and campaign finance in this state if we want to get the special interests out of politics."

I'm very pleased to learn that former Albuquerque City Council member Eric Griego, who last ran for office in 2005 against current Mayor Marty Chavez, has decided to run for a State Senate slot in District 14. Griego, a Democrat, was born and raised in the District and resides there now. The seat is currently held by Democrat James G. Taylor.

With all the news on Sen. Domenici deciding not to seek re-election this news might have gotten lost.
And maybe it will...
